Week 0 Newsletter: New website, Term Plan and Welcome Drinks

Dear Friends,

Welcome back in Hilary Term! We’re putting on a few exciting events again: there will be talks, informal presentations and pub nights to help us get through the winter.

Jacques Rupnik, a famous Czech/French political analyst from Sciences Po, is coming, and we’ll also hold our first ever big joint event with the Hungarian Society.

Follow these newsletters, check out our brand new website or come to Welcome Drinks next week to find out more!

Your OUCSS Committee

1. Brand new website

Committee members Zuzka and Rozárka have created a new website for the Czech and Slovak Society. You can now read about our history, browse past events, contact the committee and even suggest speakers!

We’re also developing an outreach section for Czech and Slovak students wondering about studying in Oxford, and working to soon include anopportunities section for current students and alumni.

Please get in touch with any suggestions.

2. Hilary Termcard

You’ll find the most up-to-date version on our website.

We’re starting a new type of events called “Over a Pint with…” – an informal discussion with Czech or Slovak alumni, held in one of the many Oxford pubs or college MCRs. We’re hoping that this will be a nice opportunity for you to hear about former students’ lives, research or work after they finished Oxford.

Should you know any interesting alumni who might be willing to come, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

3. Welcome Drinks at Keble College, Sunday 25 January at 8pm

Come along to see all the old faces, have a pint and a chat and learn more about what’s on this term. And to explore Keble College Bar, if you’ve never been!

Let us know you’re coming through our facebook event.
